The Backwoods Windjammers is a community band based in Belfair Washington USA.
The band was founded in 1986 when Stan Yantis, the band's leader, began working as the band teacher at Hawkins Middle School in the North Mason School District in Belfair Washington (USA). Stan has played in community bands wherever he has been since his own middle school days. When there was no local community band where he was, he created one.
When the Windjammers was founded, many of its members were the parents of his students. These days, the band includes a wide cross section of people of all ages and ways of life: a few of Stan's own middle school students; working men and women; retired senior citizens. Skill levels vary from beginner to advanced degrees in orchestral performance. The band's youngest member is 12; the oldest is over 90! The band has about 40 members. About 20, more or less the same 20, show up regularly for rehearsal and performances.
The band welcomes new members from beginners to professional musicians. Contact Stan at (360) 426-2865 to talk it over.
The Backwoods Windjammers is available weekends and evenings to play at your event for FREE. Most of our members have Day Jobs, so other days and times are highly unlikely.
Contact our bandmaster, Stan Yantis via telephone at: (360) 426-2865 to engage the band.
